Herb Cottage is rural nursery located in South Central Texas about
halfway between San Antonio and Houston. I grow a great variety of herb
plants from the common culinary varieties like basil, rosemary, Italian
parsley, lavender and oregano to some hard to find or little known
varieties such as Mitsuba or Japanese Parsley, Hibiscus sabdariffa, also
known as Roselle or Jamaica and lemon catnip. I carry Vetiver Grass,
Olive Trees, Allspice Trees, Vitex Trees and a few other larger
specimens of herbal trees. If you prefer to grow your own plants from
seed, herbs seeds, vegetable seeds and flower seeds from Botanical
Interest Seeds are available at the Nursery.
You can also find open
pollenated, heirloom variety vegetable seedlings in season at The Herb
Cottage. I grow many varieties of heirloom tomatoes such as Black Krim,
Green Zebra, Yellow Pear, Principe Borghese, Garden Peach and more.
There is a varied selection of peppers, both sweet peppers and hot
peppers from red, yellow and orange bell peppers, Banana Peppers,
Pimiento Peppers to Habanero, Serrano and Jalapeno Peppers. Many
varieties of squash, cucumbers, kale, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, Asian
Greens and more are available in season for your gardens.
I use only the most
sustainable growing practices in the nursery. No chemical fertilizers or
pesticides are ever used. Many of the plants are sold in biodegradable
pots to reduce plastic in our landfills and to reduce transplant shock
when replanting.
The Nursery is not open
regular hours, but a quick phone call or email will put you in touch
with me to schedule a visit. Weekends I sell plants and seeds, potting
mix and fertilizer at Farmers' Markets in and around the Houston area.
