La Paix Herb Farm, Myra Bonhage-Hale, 3052 Crooked Run Rd., Alum Bridge, WV 26321; 304-269-7681; email  URL: www.lapaixherbfarm.com  La Paix Herb Farm has been organic since 1981.  Set  in Appalachia, La Paix  features 110 acres of wooded paths, gardens, shop, distillery  and  a Victorian  'Plantation I'  house, 200 year old log cabin  and hand cut  stone root cellar. Historic Registered.  Pre-registered (by groups or more than 4) workshops and  tours feature display gardens including extensive lavender plantings, culinary, medicinal and essential oil plants for the model distillery on site.  Beautiful plantings and  wonderful fragrances excite the senses while the Silver Labyrinth and a Feng Shui Garden encourage the visitor to experience the spiritual.  The shop features value-added products from essential oil distillation which include 'Passionate Gardener's Hand Cream,' 'Honey Lips' lip balm, hydrosols, and other innovations.  WHOLESALE and retail sales are welcome.  A number of farmer/grower grants from the North East SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) have resulted in expertise in deer deterrents, sustainable insect control and essential oil distillery research.  Please consult the web site for more information.  The shop features a variety of herb, garden and nature books. Dowsing techniques and a distillation of herbs can be demonstrated for registrants.  The mission of La Paix is to raise awareness of the benefits of organic gardening and to help participants relate with nature and environmental sustainability.  An emphasis on heritage seed expands La Paix’s commitment to sound environmental practices. The Annual Lavender Fair.  Apprentices are welcome.

Lavender Hills of Kentucky, LLC, Denise Scaringi, 111 Carran Dr., Lakeside Park, KY 41017-2234; 859-331-3380; email  URL: www.lavenderhillsofkentucky.com  Located at 229 Conrad Ridge Rd., Brooksville, KY 41004, 606-735-3355. Lavender Hills of Kentucky is a family owned and operated lavender farm beginning its third year of operation. Located in the northern Kentucky county of Bracken, this family farm was established in 1965 with tobacco and cattle being the main source of income. Over forty years later, our goals have changed to include the production of lavender. Three generations have come together to begin the first lavender farm in Kentucky! Lavender is a lovely flower used for many decorative items as well as an herb used in many recipes from entrees to desserts. Our first year consisted of plans and plantings. We established our first field with 375 Grosso plants in June 2005. During the second year more Grosso plants were added as well as the introduction of Munstead and Rosea. The second year also resulted in the successful opening of our on-farm gift shop. Our first harvest happened in June 2006 with over 750 bundles collected. Our plans include selling these beautiful dried lavender bundles, lavender buds, lavender-filled products, plants, culinary lavender, and essential oils for creating our own line of soaps and lotions. All products will be available on our website as well as in our farm-site gift shop. The third year promises more good things to come including the planting of a u-pick area. The area will contain a number of lavender varieties in blues, pinks, purples, yellows, and whites. As our business continues to expand, our goal is to open the farm for tours, picnics, weddings, etc. We are currently members of the Herb Growing & Marketing Network and the River Valley Agritourism Alliance. Once harvesting begins for culinary lavender, we will be applying for membership with Kentucky Proud.

Lighthouse Herbs, William Burgess, 122-B Edison Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23702; 757-673-0372; email  I produce homemade herbal extracts of both single herbs and combos that are based on the teachings and formulae of other herbalists, and/or my own experience.  I use quality, organically grown and wild crafted herbs from sustainable sources, and try and make my extracts as potent if not more so than the Eclectic Materia Medicae call for.  I do ship and only have retail pricing as of now, though my prices may be cheaper than most health food stores.  As my fledgling business sees fit to grow, I will be expanding and trying new things to help both the consumer, and the growth of my business.
